Why do retirement planners always talk in relation to past income. If someone is earning $500,000 a year that doesn't mean they require $400,000 a year when they retire.

There seems to be a popular argument among those against raising the capital gains tax that somehow they are entitled to lower taxes on that money because 1) they already paid taxes on the money they are investing and 2) they could lose money they invest.

I bump into that 35% bracket because I work for a living. I didn't inherit money to invest, I earn it and pay income taxes on it.

Many wealthy already pay less 'cause they don't earn wages. They invest, so they don't pay employment taxes, and pay low capital gains rate

Cheney is a chicken hawk. All this tough talk and macho swagger when he can send others off to do the fighting. When he was called on to serve, he ran the other way! I bet you won't see that in his book.

I have a great deal of respect for Sen. Franken's approach to his new job as a Senator. He has chosen to spurn much of the free publicity his previous fame could afford him, and earn the respect of his colleagues on both sides of the Senate by doing serious work. As a C.P.A.
